Why I Ditched Concealer for These Color Correctors

Despite its name, the last thing my concealer does is hide any of my imperfections. It’s not the concealer’s fault as I have tried the best of the best formulas available today. It’s moreso because of the redness and darkness that lies under my makeup. Instead of hiding what I want to camouflage, layering concealer over those concerns created shadows that made my skin look uneven. Cue the color correctors!

Skin tone correctors, like the easily blendable exa beauty High Fidelity Balancing Color Corrector ($27), can neutralize specific pigment issues like redness, dark circles, and hyperpigmentation. The colors used to correct complexion concerns are based on the color wheel, where complementary colors are opposite each other.

The Benefits:

To conceal redness and dark spots, the exa beauty green color corrector can be used on its own or under foundation. Green is the opposite of red on the color wheel, so it immediately helps to neutralize the redness I experience from time to time. To get a nice, neutral glow and a hint of coverage, I’ll place a small amount on my reactive areas, and blend it out with a brush or my fingers. 

When I want to nuetralize my dark spots and melasma mustache, the Pink corrector shade tones down the darkness. Pink, peach or orange shades are opposite blue on the color wheel, which can help cover hyperpigmentation.

Marshmallow root, rice bran, licorice, kaolin, amino acids and antioxidants 

How to Use It:

Start by moisturizing and priming, then apply with a light hand, as too much can look unnatural. Start with a small amount and build up if necessary. Also, make sure to choose a shade that match your skin tone to avoid any visible color differences. For instance, dark to deep skin tones my benefit from the Red-Orange or Deep Peach shades to balance dark spots.
