This Hair Look Was Worn By More Than a Dozen Celebs at the Oscars

I think many of us can relate: When you change the way your hair parts, it changes your whole look. Who knew something so easy could make such a big difference? At tonight’s 95th Oscars, the center part was center stage. Worn by more than a dozen celebrities, the center part (aka middle part) was paired with easy, effortless hair looks like long, sleek strands and low chignons to complement the glamorous gowns.

“Very streamlined hair is a trend tonight—we’re seeing a lot of this,” said fashion guru and TV host Zanna Roberts Rassi during her E! red-carpet coverage prior to the show. Here are some of our favorite center part hairstyles at the 2023 Oscars, worn by some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Zoe Saldana

Celebrity hairstylist Mara Roszak worked with Zoe Saldana, star of Avatar: The Way of Water and presenter tonight, to create a “sophisticated and easy” look that complemented the actress’s gorgeous Fendi gown.

“Since the dress is fitted but still soft and delicate, the hair mirrored that with an air of effortlessness and an ethereal feel,” says Roszak. The look is a center part with soft, delicate curls and the hair tucked behind the ears.

After washing Saldana’s hair with her RŌZ Foundation Shampoo and Conditioner, Roszak applied RŌZ Santa Lucia Styling Oil to damp strands and blew it dry with a medium-sized, boar bristle round brush. Next, Roszak took the edge of a rat tail comb to make a perfectly centered part. The hair was then curled with a 1.5-inch barrel iron to create a soft bend. Mara then sprayed all over with a lightweight hairspray to set the look. The hair was then gently brushed to create the soft, fairy feel and teased at the crown to make a little volume.

Elizabeth Olsen

Celebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend was “super inspired” by Olsen’s Givenchy gown and “wanted her hair up in a structured chignon to complement it.” The WandaVision actress is a presenter at tonight’s show. 

First, Townsend applied PHYTO Phytodefrisant Anti-Frizz Blow Dry Balm to Elizabeth’s damp hair and then blow-dried it. To keep her hair super shiny and frizz-free, he raked 7 Moisturizing Day Cream throughout, and then created a low ponytail.

Next, he added a few drops of Phytospecific Baobab Oil to the ponytail and twisted it into a chignon, securing the shape with bobby pins. After Elizabeth was dressed, he brushed Phytodefrisant Anti-Frizz Touch Up Care along her center part and on the sides. “This product is incredible because the product and brush are in one tube, so you can literally brush the product onto the hair exactly where you need it!”

Chloe East

“The mood for the look is classic but with keeping it modern,” says celebrity hairstylist Bridget Brager, who worked with The Fabelmans’ actress tonight. “I purposely kept a piece of hair out of the chignon and wanted you to be able to see the base of the ponytail for a beautiful, modern look.“

Brager first applied Rodan + Fields DEFRIZZ+ Oil on East’s damp hair, and then used DEFINE+ Curl Cream as a blowout balm as she dried the hair. After the hair was dry, she put it in a ponytail and used a tiny etching comb to smooth it out. 

“Once in the ponytail, I took the hair in the front and created a triangle section to add the middle parting. I wanted to create a super-fierce straight part, so I flat-ironed the pieces and used a little of the DEFINE+ Curl Cream to hold everything in place.” For the back of the hair, Brager applied a little bit of DEFRIZZ+ Oil, created a twist and held it in places as a half chignon, letting the ends hang out.

Ana de Armas

The Blonde actress’s ethereal Louis Vuitton dress inspired celebrity hairstylist Jenny Cho to create “soft, effortless waves work falling behind the shoulders and back. The bottom of the dress was embellished with what looked like fallen flower petals and morning dew—that’s where I drew my inspiration for her hair,” Cho continues. “I wanted to showcase her beautiful brown hair against all the lighter palettes. The look is powerful yet soft, beautiful and feminine.”

On towel-dried hair, Cho applied René Furterer STYLE Blowout Balm to smooth it out, and misted STYLE Protect Thermal Protecting Spray. Then, she blow-dried the hair with a T3 blow-dryer and used a T3 round brush to add slight body and volume to the roots.

“Hair extensions were added for length, and I cut them to the desired length,” Cho says. “We had Cher in mind while this was happening. Starting at the nape, I used a curling iron to create soft, lived-in waves. I pinned each curl and let them cool, to set for the night ahead. Once the hair was set, I loosened up the curls and misted the hair with STYLE Shine Mist, and finalized the curls with STYLE Finishing Spray.

Allison Williams

The M3GAN star’s loose chignon—complete with a center part—was created by celebrity hairstylist David von Cannon. “I started by adding Hairstory Lift Volumizing Spray on the roots and Undressed Texturizing Spray on the mids and ends of the hair while it was damp, and then blow-dried with a round brush to give a wavy texture,” he explains. 

“Once dry, I went in with small sections and curled all the hair with a 1-inch curling iron to give texture for the updo. I then went in with a small amount of Hair Oil to break up the waves and add some shine.”

Once the texture was how he wanted it, von Cannon loosely gathered the hair together in a low ponytail and made a “loose chignon that wasn’t too perfect and had some pieces coming out to keep it young and fresh.”
