Target has been one of our favorite places to do our beauty shopping for as long as we can remember, and in the last few years, the retailer has made it easier to be a more conscious consumer in a number of categories. Prioritize clean beauty? There's an icon for that. Want to introduce more Black-owned beauty brands into your routine? Seek out the seal. And now, Target is launching Target Zero, a new initiative that helps shoppers identify products and packaging that are refillable, reusable, compostable, made from recycled content, or made from materials that reduce the use of plastic.

"We can’t wait to introduce our guests to Target Zero because we recognize their growing calls to find products that fit within their lifestyle, designed with sustainability in mind," Jill Sando, Target's executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, said in a statement. "Our aim with Target Zero is to keep delivering on their needs through our ever-evolving product assortment, as well as to give brands investing in reduced waste products and packaging an opportunity to have those products highlighted by Target."

You'll be able to spot the Target Zero icon on hundreds of products during the initial rollout, which includes household, personal care, and beauty products. Among the beauty brands on which you can expect to spot the icon are Pacifica and Burt's Bees, which will be offering an exclusive new kind of metal lip balm tin that's recyclable and made without single-use plastics. Both brands already offer numerous products that carry the Target Clean icon as well.

More brands are expected to earn the icon in the coming months. Target's statement says the retailer has been working with its brand partners and owned brands to determine products that meet specific requirements and that it will continue to expand the assortment with additional products that meet the Target Zero criteria.

"By making it easier for our guests to identify which products are designed to reduce waste, Target Zero helps them make informed decisions about what they purchase and advances a collective impact across our brand partners, our product shelves, and within our homes and communities," says Amanda Nusz, senior vice president of corporate responsibility and president of the Target Foundation.

In addition to finding the icons on products on Target store shelves, you can shop the dedicated Target Zero section on target.com now.
