I am notoriously mascara-averse. My lashes are short, straight, and grow downward (an unholy trifecta when it comes to doing makeup) — and mascara often weighs them down. The thick brush — which has a slight hourglass shape — sweeps along each hair to deposit just the right amount of formula and makes mess-free application a breeze. It’s why Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty is one celebrity beauty brand that our editors actually can’t get enough of.

The formula dries down to feel totally weightless and I often forget I put on the stuff in the first place. One coat separates and lengthens the wispy hairs. This what I usually opt for day-to-day. But the long-wearing, pitch-black formula spiked with lash-conditioning castor oil doesn’t dry too quickly, so you can go in with a second layer to up the drama.
