Kim Kardashian’s Skin-Care Line Is Already Facing a Lawsuit

When we caught wind that Kim Kardashian’s newly launched brand, SKKN BY KIM, is facing a lawsuit for trademark infringement, we were immediately brought back to Hailey Bieber’s recent run-in with copyright infringement for her new brand. Bieber was sued for launching a line with the same name as another company, and now SKKN is facing a lawsuit for the same reason. In Kardashian’s case, the lawsuit was filed by Beauty Concepts, a small, Brooklyn-based cosmetics company for copying their name and logo.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Beauty Concepts—they filed the lawsuit on Tuesday—claims they have used the same brand name SKKN+ since August of 2018. Per the lawsuit, Beauty Concepts reportedly came in contact with Kardashian and parent company Coty about the issue, and the pair “willfully and deliberately” chose to proceed with their plans to use the SKKN name.

“This lawsuit is not what it seems,” Kardashian’s lawyer, Michael Rhodes, tells Entertainment Tonight. “SKKN BY KIM is a new brand that follows in the footsteps of Ms. Kardashian’s successful KKW line of products. Building on independent research and development, her company filed a trademark application for SKKN BY KIM to protect the new branded products…We applaud Ms. Lunsford—she is the founder of Beauty Concepts—for being a small business owner and following her dreams. But that doesn’t give her the right to wrongfully claim that we’ve done something wrong.”

Also included in Rhodes’s statement: “Undaunted, Beauty Concepts then tried to make its business seem more than it was—it leased a new storefront, changed it website, etc. Several times we reached out to Beauty Concepts, trying to find a sensible path to coexistence. We pointed out that running a small esthetician business in Brooklyn does not give it the right to shut down a global skincare line. In the end, Beauty Concepts didn’t really engage with us beyond demanding a lot of money. Since we’ve done nothing wrong, we stood our ground.”
