“Ghosts” Star Rebecca Wisocky Talks Turning 50, Playing a 150-Year-Old and Her Best Beauty Tips

As fan-favorite Hetty Woodstone on CBS’ most-watched comedy series “Ghosts,” Rebecca Wisocky is having a lot of fun playing a 150-year-old ghost who is figuring it out. “She gets it all wrong a lot of the time,” the actress recently shared with us while talking turning 50, self-care and her best beauty secret of sleep. “But that’s a lot of fun to play.”

What is the most fun thing about playing a 150-year-old ghost?

I love that she’s been given this journey of self-discovery and female empowerment. Hetty has had the most radical character development in the show. Probably, because she’s had the farthest to go.

The writers gave Asher Grodman and me a very fun partnership this season. They took the most uptight ghost and gave her this glorious sexual awakening. First with a washing machine, which was a favorite episode this season…but then, with a frat bro from the ’80s. This unlikely pairing is a great subversive take on a “May-December romance” and a good reminder that women remain vital at all ages—even in death apparently. It makes me happy that the fans all seem to be rooting for her. Hetty and Trevor are having a great time stirring up trouble in the house. I think they’ll continue to do so.

How do you get into character?

I have to mention my dresser, Sophie Godard. Getting into Hetty’s very complicated costume has become a beautiful little dance thanks to her humor and expertise. Jean Scarabin who does Hetty’s hair and Gillian Bruce who does her makeup are also true gems. I wear a big hair piece that I wrap my own hair around to create that look. We call it “The Harriet.”

Out of all your varied roles over your career, which ones stick out to you the most glam-wise?

Evelyn Powell, the character I played on “Devious Maids” for four years, was a style icon. I loved everything she wore and swiped a few pieces for myself on my way out the door!

What are some of your “holy-grail” beauty items?

I’ve fallen in love with Jesse Golden’s skin-care line, The Golden Secrets. Her Heal All Oil ($58) has become a go-to. I came to know her because she happens to be married to Devan Long, who plays Thor on our show; I think he uses it in that luxurious beard.

There’s an Australian company called Eleven that makes a great curl cream ($25). I use that to style Hetty’s little ringlets. And Gillian introduced me to a mascara that has become a favorite called Bambi Eye by L’Oreal ($12).

But, above all else, I’m nuts about having water with me everywhere I go. Staying hydrated and getting as much quality sleep as possible are the best beauty tips I can offer. That and being content with who you are. I turned 50 recently and have honestly never felt more beautiful.

What are you excited for this spring?

I’m so happy to be back home. I’m enjoying my family and dogs and relaxing in sweatpants for as long as I can before I squeeze back into that corset this July.
