I'm not going to lie; for the past couple of months, I've been itching for a new tattoo. It's true what they say: once you get one, it's hard to strop the collection from growing. Unlike Demi Lovato and their plethora of ink that sprawls across their entire body (from what the eye can see), mine are kept somewhat to a modest, minimal effect. 

When you dabble with the idea of getting a fresh tat, what comes first: the placement or the print? That's a question I'm dying to ask Lovato after scrolling through a series of Instagram stories posted to their account on Saturday, January 8. A collection of time-stamped pictures of their freshly shaved head reveal the singer getting inked on side of their head at 2:35 pm by the famous single-needling, Los Angeles-based tattoo artist Dr. Woo.

Within a few moments of the initial "I'm getting a tattoo on my head" post, my anxiety on what they got tattooed on their head was thankfully put to rest as Lovato revealed what Dr. Woo had inked on their skull — a hyperrealistic spider placed just above their left ear with its front two legs appearing as if they are crawling towards the front of Lovato's face.

After getting over the "ouch" factor, my next thought was, "why a spider?" (I think it's safe to say arachnophobia is not a fear of Lovato's.) Thankfully, they answered that question after posting the final results on the side of their head. "It was Grandmother spider who taught us many things. She taught us about pottery and weaving. She taught us about fire and light and dark. She taught us that we are all connected on the web — each one of us having our place in this world," they wrote on their Instagram story. (For those unfamiliar with this quote (myself included), InTouch reported that this quote is from the Cherokee tale ​​"Grandmother Spider Brings the Light.")

While I can definitely find personal meaning behind this quote, I cannot imagine the discomfort Lovato must've gone through to get this bad boy tattooed on their skull. I think I would have tapped out after the spider's legs (which are just lines, mind you!) not to mention the shading that went down on the spider's ovular body. I got to give this one to you, Lovato, because that's dedication.
