Andrea Riseborough’s Slugging and SPF Hack Used for Tonight’s Oscars

For best actress nominee Andrea Riseborough, tonight’s look was all about slugging, coupled with some tinted sunscreen.

“I started by cleansing her skin with True Botanicals Ginger Turmeric Cleansing Balm ($48),” shares makeup artist Mai Quynh. “I scooped a small amount and warmed it up onto her skin while using a circular motion. After a minute, I had her rinse her face with lukewarm water. Once her skin was toweled dry, I applied True Botanicals Chebula Active Serum ($90) to her face. I ‘slugged’ her skin by applying eight or so drops of True Botanicals Renew Pure Radiance Oil ($110). Then, I slathered True Botanicals Renew Chebula Extreme Cream ($110) to her face.”

“Next, l dotted True Botanicals Renew Resurrection Radiance Eye Cream ($78) along her orbital bone and eye area. I used the True Botanicals De-Puff Under Eye Rollers ($38) all over her face as well as around her eye area to relax any tension and relieve any puffiness before I started her makeup. Any excess cream and oil, I rubbed into her skin.”

For the eyes, Quynh dotted a little Tom ford Traceless Soft Matte Concealer in 2N0 ($60) and set it with Westman Atelier Vital Pressed Skincare Powder ($75). “Then, I brushed up her brows with an Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze ($23). I finished the eyes with two coats of Chanel Noir Allure Mascara in Noir ($42) to her top lashes. For her face, I mixed True Botanicals Everyday Skin Tint SPF 30 ($54) in 2 and 3 and applied it all over. Next, I dotted Traceless Soft Matte Concealer ($60) under her eyes and wherever else I set her T-zone with Westman Atelier Vital Pressed Skincare Powder ($75). Then, I lightly sprayed her face with True Botanicals Calm Nutrient Mist ($24) to give her skin an instant boast of refreshment. For her lips, I applied True Botanicals Moisture Lock Glossy Lip Balm in Clear ($24).”

While it may be more of a trend, and less of a trick Quynh also shares that she’s all about slugging for getting healthy, glowing skin. “I like to ‘slug’ the face with moisturizer and oil while they’re in hair or nails, especially if they’re super dry. I also like to use a cleansing balm and wash their face before we do makeup, just to make sure I have a fresh, clean canvas to work on. Cleansing stimulates and awakens the skin, so skin care will be absorbed better. And, don’t forget your neck—always moisturize down to your neck and décolleté.”
